Reservation Killing India... My letter to the President of India
Honorable President of India,
I am a student of IIT Bombay who would like to voice my opinion on the reservation bill that has been proposed. I am aware that the President cannot influence the bill directly but I want you to know the plight of the students across India.
During my admissions for engineering, I had secured 90% and wanted a seat in Telecommunications Engg. in a good college. But I missed the seat by 2 marks and later on I found that a 'reserved' student with 65% had secured the seat. This event happens every year all over India in all disciplines. It is a disheartening sight for a student who works day and night for fulfilling his/her career dreams and doesnt get what he/she deserves.
IITs and IIMs, which are India's pride will now face the same future which our already victimized universities of India are facing. A deserving student will miss the seat by a mark or two and a career will be ending. However, that still wont guarantee the beginning of another career as many of the reserved candidates drop out in the successive years and ultimately the seat is 'wasted'.
I am not completely against reservations. The students below the poverty line do need reservations to ultimately enable them to earn themselves a living. But these poor people are not from any specific category. There are General Category students who are indeed poor but have no reservations. These students will be the most who will suffer out of these reservations. The reserved candidates who are already rich, will become more rich and poor will remain poor.
I share the same dream which has been stated in the President's speech and I have kept a printed copy of that speech after being encouraged from it. I with my fellow friends who opt for Indian Institutes over the foreign Universities want India to be a developed nation with all Indians living a life of high standards. Even in this situation, one will not want his/her children to miss a seat by a mark to an undeserving candidate. Out of this scare, many students will opt to go outside and serve a foreign country where the talent and merit are a priority over caste and creed. I am sorry to let you know that you will have far less capable students who would work towards India's development in the wake of these insecurities. The reservations are inducing an apathetic feeling towards India which will adversely affect India.
Our politicians and office bearers need to look beyond just collecting vote banks and work towards building a strong future generation for India.
I am terribly sorry if my views are biased agaisnt the reserved category. I have no personal grudges but I only seek a fair chance for the general category to pursue our endeavors.
Thanking You.
Yours truly,
Sanand Sule
